Designated Waterway: Wicomico River
The Clay Island Light no longer exists. It was located on Clay Island in the Wicomico River at the confluence of Nanticoke River, Fishing Bay, and Tangier Sound.
Clay Island Lighthouse was was located at the entrance to the Wicomico River on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay at the confluence of Nanticoke River, Fishing Bay, and Tangier Sound.
It was a small 1-½ story building with the tower on the roof.
This light was constructed in 1832 by John Donahoo. At some point it was upgraded with a sixth order Fresnel lens.
Sharkfin Shoal Light replaced this lighthouse in 1892 and the building collapsed two years later. No trace of the lighthouse remains.
